Our story

One engineer, one standard, across north Hampshire

SFB Heating and Cooling is run by Sam Ibbs from 3 Mansfield Road in Basingstoke. Sam completed his apprenticeship in 2011 and has worked in domestic heating ever since, adding F-Gas certification so the same business can handle both sides of a modern home: keeping it warm in January and keeping it liveable in July.

The customers are homeowners and landlords. Homeowners come with a boiler that has given up, radiators that never get hot at the far end of the house, weak mains pressure at the shower, or a bedroom that is unusable in a heatwave. Landlords come for CP12 certificates, tenant call-outs and replacement boilers that need doing between tenancies without drama.

What the business specialises in is the full domestic mechanical package under one Gas Safe number: boiler installation, repair and servicing, full central heating installations, powerflushing, unvented hot water cylinders, general plumbing, landlord gas safety certificates, emergency call-outs, and domestic air conditioning installation and servicing. Because it is all in-house, nobody is left coordinating three different trades who each blame the other.

Coverage runs from the Basingstoke base out across north Hampshire — Basingstoke, Hook, Hartley Wintney, Tadley, Andover, Kingsclere, Overton, Micheldever, Aldermaston and the villages between them. Working within that radius is deliberate: it keeps travel short, keeps return visits practical, and means a warranty call in two years is still a local job rather than an inconvenience.

The office side is handled by Beth, so calls get answered and bookings get made while Sam is under a floor somewhere. Normal hours are 8am–5pm, monday to friday, with out-of-hours emergency call-outs for no heat, no hot water and leaks.

Mission and standards

Do it properly, price it honestly, stand behind it

The aim is simple: a household should be able to book a heating or air conditioning job without bracing for a moving price, a stranger on site, or an argument about paperwork.

One engineer, start to finish

Sam Ibbs carries out the work himself. Nothing is handed to a subcontracted stranger halfway through, so the person who quoted the job is the person who fits it and the person who answers for it afterwards.

Fixed prices, not moving targets

Quotes are free, and once issued they are fixed. Where the work does not warrant a quote it is charged at £90 + VAT per hour, stated before anything starts. Bank transfer is preferred; cash is accepted.

Certified, registered, documented

Gas work is notified and certified. Air conditioning is handled under F-Gas certification (Refcom REF1025590). Landlord CP12 certificates are issued at £90 + VAT. You get the paperwork, not a promise of it.

Guaranteed workmanship

Every job carries a one-year workmanship guarantee, and longer where the appliance or parts fitted carry a longer manufacturer warranty — up to 10 years on a new boiler installation.
